Combined Goodness of Chinese and Italian Cuisines

There are noodles in China and there are pastas in Italy. Chinese people claim that Marco Polo brought noodles from China to Italy on his fabled trips so the “strings of flour” appeared in Italy. But the Italians are showing documents to the Chinese people to claim that those “strings” were part of their Ancestors’ life way before Marco started his journey eastward. Well, I made a special trip to Italy to look for clues to the answers only to bring home a full stomach of pastas and boxes of pastas in exotic shapes but with no more clues than I had had before. Noodles and Pastas are similar but very different. The ways people cook them make their version of the “strings” more intolerable for each other. I’m here to bridge the gap 🙂 It works according to those who visited yumyumyee’s kitchen, European and Chinese descendants alike. The trick? Let’s lay out the recipe–almost the same ingredients you see in a typical Italian kitchen:

–  3 cups of Rotini (not shown here)

–  2 cups of of medium-sized peeled raw shrimps (unpeeled are just fine)

–  2 cups of sliced mushrooms

–  1 tablespoonful of chopped fresh garlic

–  1-2 tablespoonful of chopped fresh basil (basil spice is as good)

–  1-2 tablespoonfuls of chopped green onions

–  olive oil, salt, cooking wine, basil spice, grated parmesan cheese

I love Bertolli Alfredo Sauce! Either one of the above is fine for this recipe.

Directions

Step 1:

   – add 6 cups of water to a stock-pot on high heat and bring it to a boil

   – add Rotini to the boiling water and turn stove to medium heat

   – add one teaspoonful of salt to pasta and stir occasionally till pasta is done according to the
cooking instructions on the pasta package, but reduce by 1 minute

   – drain pasta and set aside

Step 2:

   –  add 2 tablespoonfuls of olive oil in a saute-pan on medium heat

   –  add garlic and stir till they turn lightly gold

   –  add green onions and basils to pan and stir mix with garlic

   –  immediately add shrimps and stir for 1 minute

   –  add 2 tablespoonfuls of cooking wine, half teaspoonful of salt and keep stirring for one more minute

   –  add 3 tablespoonfuls of Bertolli Alfredo Sauce

   –  add mushrooms and stir for 2 more minutes

   –  add cooked pasta and stir together for 1 minute

   –  done cooking! serve with pinch of basil spice and parmesan cheese
